You Dont Need Numbers to Show Resume Accomplishments - Jobscan

You Dont Need Numbers to Show Resume Accomplishments - JobscanPosted on March 11, 2019September 11, 2019 by Kamara Toffolo If youve recently updated your resume, youve probably become frustrated with trying to incorporate quantifiable accomplishments.Quantifiable accomplishments are all the resume rage because numbers convey impact quickly, efficiently, and can transcend language. As a resume writer, Im always looking for ways to quantify the results my clients have created in their careers. But slapping a number on an accomplishment just to quantify it doesnt suddenly make it more relevant and powerful. The use of a number needs to make sense, and often, it doesnt. There are many situations where you cant quantify an accomplishment, and some cases where you shouldnt even try.Why do we even need to think about accomplishments anyway? We know that if our resume makes it past the applicant tracking system and into the hands of a human, it gets very little time in front of their eyeballs . That means we need to bring the readers attention to what they need to know about us, and how well add value to their organization, fast.In this post, Ill share with you some categories of common unquantifiable accomplishments, questions that will prompt you to think about conveying impact without measuring it, and 17 examples of how non-quantifiable accomplishments might look on your resume.Leadership accomplishmentsThe fruchtwein impressive aspect your leadership might be that you lead big teams, which is quantifiable, but thats a lackluster accomplishment in itself. Leadership is typically about people and information, so your accomplishments will be a bit more abstract in this case. Instead of just team size, ponderWhat have I leuchtdiode my team to achieve? How have I facilitated cross-functional collaboration between my team and other departments? Whats the impact? How have I mentored an employee to develop or achieve a promotion? What new milestone did they reach? Why am I tru sted as a subject-matter expert? How and what did I contribute? Why welches I invited to contribute to a think tank or take part in exclusive training? How did I train others? Related articlesHow to Showcase Leadership Skills on Your ResumeHow to Showcase Executive Soft Skills on Your ResumeRelationship management andpartnershipsaccomplishmentsSimilar to leadership, relationship management and partnerships involve the softer side of business. While we could draw a conclusion that our relationships have resulted in an increase in revenue, for example, we arent all sales people. That doesnt make our commitment to building connection any less important or impactful. Rather than force a number, considerWhere have I built new relationships that never existed for my company before? What opportunities did this create? How did I repair an important relationship either externally or internally? What welches the impact? How have I partnered with aleidher team or organization to move important ini tiatives forward? What was the result?Innovation and business transformationaccomplishmentsWhile it should be easy to measure the result of innovation and change, depending on the organization, sometimes there are no metrics or KPIs, or we might just not be privy to them. But we can still highlight how weve made our companies run like well-oiled machines, even without numbers. Ask yourselfHow did I automate a process? With the time it freed up, what opportunities could be pursued instead? What process did I proactively build from scratch? What inspired this innovation? How did I influence change? Why did this make a difference in my organization? How did I facilitate adoption of a new tool or technology? What efficiency did this create?RecognitionandmeritOccasionally were just immeasurably awesome, and if were lucky, were recognized for it. Reflecting back on each role, recallPromotions When did I earn them and why did I earn them?Awards Why did I receive an award and who was also elig ible for it? (ie. who did I beat?) Was it a department award? Company-wide award?Praise Why was I praised and who praised me? 17 non-quantifiable accomplishmentsexamplesLets bring this all together with examples of how some non-quantifiable accomplishments could be written on your resumeLed help desk to partner with customers, spending more time providing clear and actionable instructions, empowering clients to self-troubleshoot issues in the futureInitiated a lunch and learn series to facilitate knowledge and best practice sharing between the sales, client services, and project management departmentsMentored analyst to earn promotion to Project Manager by identifying cross-training and development opportunitiesWorked closely with a Data Analyst struggling to performidentified strengths in client service and facilitated a lateral role change to the account management team, where he now excelsDesignated as the ERP subject-matter expertcontributed to vendor negotiations and was instru mental in securing a lower solution costInvited to serve on the Change Management committee to evaluate change requests from a risk management perspective, working closing with senior leadershipCompleted the prestigious Leadership Training program, a development opportunity offered only to employees identified as top talentDeveloped a customer call framework and training program, delivering the training to all call center staff with the intention of improving customer satisfaction and speed of resolutionJoined the local CPA professional association chapter, and connected with the organizers to become corporate sponsors for the upcoming regional conferenceRepaired critical relationship with key client by assigning dedicated analysts to their projectresulted in bid approvalFully automated the inbound inquiry assignment process, freeing up the account coordinator to follow-up with clientsBuilt a production issue priority framework from scratch to more efficiently identify and resolve b usiness critical issuesDelivered a webinar showcasing the benefits of Agile which is supporting a shift away from Waterfall methodsShifting company towards completely paperless operationsdeveloped a quick scan method which eliminated the need for mail distributionPromoted from senior analyst to team lead by demonstrating leadership potential and proactively training junior analystsReceived the World-Class Customer tafelgeschirr award for contributing to a key clients renewalselected from all customer service staff in New YorkPraised by Client or Leader Name, Client or Leader Title, Company Name Direct quote about why youre awesomeWhile quantifying adds power to your resume, it only works when numbers make sense. An examination of a group of healthy young males intimates that those that subscribe to the Keto diet can potentially damage blood cells by permitting cheat days.Since impaired glucose tolerance and spikes in blood sugar levels are known to be associated with an increased risk in cardiovascular disease, it made sense to look at what was happening in the blood vessels after a sugar hit, explains the studys first author, Cody Durrer.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreThe Keto diet has become particularly popular amongst Type 2 Diabetes patients wishing to mitigate blood cont rol in the short term. At the start of the week these individuals were tasked with consuming a 75 -gram glucose dose (the amount comparable to a serving of fries or one large soda.)At the conclusion of the experiment, the researchers examined the blood vessels of the participants and found the otherwise healthy young men expressed readings of a partie of poor cardiovascular health. 5 Consulting Resume Tips for New Consultants Management Resources

5 Consulting Resume Tips for New Consultants Management Resources5 Consulting Resume Tips for New Consultants Management ResourcesConsulting careers offer many opportunities for highly skilled professionals, including the ability to pursue diverse projects and earncompetitive compensation. More than eight in 10 CFOs consider consulting an attractive career choice for senior-level accounting and finance executives, according to research by our company. However, to stand out in this competitive field, you need not only in-demand skills and experience, but also a rock-solid consulting resume. Here are five tips to help ensure that your consulting resume will catch a potential clients attention1. Provide concise but thorough descriptions of previous workWhen describing projects or initiatives you were involved in - whetherbei it was helping a company prepare to meet new regulatory compliance requirements, get ready for an initial public offering or navigate a merger or acquisition deal - explain what you accomplished clearly, but succinctly.Be sure to include a quantifiable outcome, as well, says Dan DeNisco, senior vice president for Robert Half Management Resources. Clients are always interested in how a consultant can save them time and money, he explains. The consulting resume should therefore always highlight a professionals track record of completing projects on time and on or under budget.2. Choose a functional format for your consulting resumeAccording to DeNisco, a functional format works better than a chronological format for a consulting resume because it focuses on a professionals abilities. The functional format gives the consultant the opportunity to highlight his or her specific level of involvement, responsibilities and accomplishments on projects rather than just presenting a list of job titles and dates of employment, he says.3. Emphasize the range and depth of your experienceNew consultants have a lot to demonstrate to potential clients because t hey are just embarking on a specialized career path where expertise and proven experience are musts.Thats why it is important to underscore your hands-on knowledge of financial systems and tools, and your breadth of exposure to the industries you have worked in, says DeNisco. Also, be sure to include details about your education and list all relevant certifications. What types of certifications are in demand right now? Describe your work ethicTo meet targeted milestones and deadlines for projects, consultants are often asked to work more than the normal 40 hours per week. Many employers will therefore want to get a sense of a consultants work ethic, and whether he or she possessesvaluable attributes such as versatility and flexibility, before engaging that person for an assignment.DeNisco offers this example of language a consultant might use in a consulting resume to provide insight into his or her work ethic The project had very tight deadlines and key milestones, all of which were achieved by working an average of 55 hours per week.5. Underscore your interpersonal skillsAfter a consultant reaches a certain level of experience, technical abilities are a given and interpersonal skills are often the key to project success, DeNisco explains. He says consultants can describe their soft skills by detailing their role on a project team and how they interacted with other members of that team, as well as with key stakeholders at the client site.Showcasing your leadership abilities in your consulting resume could also help give you an edge when vying for an assignment. Leadership abilities can be validated by detailing your leadership role on a project and your impact on the successful completion of that initiative, says DeNisco. He adds that a proven ability to lead by example can be just as valuable as a title, like project manager, in the eyes of a potential client. This is important for new consultants to keep in mind, as they may have limited experience serving in leadership roles on projects. With companies relying on consultants to augment their core teams, serve in interim management roles, and assist with specialized projects, its a good time to break into consulting.
